Cherniev made the following statement on his social media account:
“My friends from the Bundestag have just informed me that key parliamentary groups have reached a consensus on sending long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.”
Cherniev mentioned an important feature of these missiles. The range of the weapons system that Germany will send to Ukraine is up to 500 kilometers. With this range, Ukraine will be able to hit Russian targets in all occupied territories, including the southern coast of Crimea.
“We have been working with German parliamentarians for a long time to create a support group and now the ice has finally broken,” the Ukrainian MP said.
An official decision from Germany on the arms aid to Ukraine is awaited.
Ukraine had requested the missiles from Germany in May. However, Germany has consistently refused to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles, while Britain and France have provided long-range missiles.
In addition, the US announced a new military aid package of 1.3 billion dollars to Ukraine in recent weeks. According to a statement made by the Pentagon, the new $1.3 billion military aid package provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative generally includes critical air defense capabilities and ammunition. The aid package includes 4 national advanced surface-to-air missile systems, ammunition, 152 millimeter artillery shells, demining equipment, TOW missiles, unmanned aerial systems, electronic warfare detection equipment, 150 fuel trucks, 165 tactical vehicles for towing and recovering equipment, and security and communications systems equipment.
